»Confirmed: Water Ice On Mars

A huge breakthrough was discovered last week on Mars. The NASA Phoenix lander has found water ice. This is a big discovery since it ads a bunch of questions. How did it get there? Why is still there? Is are a big store of water ice?

Quote

Bathed in martian sunlight for four days, the white substance sublimated--i.e., it transformed from solid to gas without passing through the liquid state. This is how water behaves on Mars. Atmospheric pressure on the Red Planet is so low (1% that of Earth), it rarely allows H2O to exist in liquid form on the planet's surface; solid and gas are the only options. Some readers have asked, how do we know the white substance is not frozen CO2 (dry ice) instead of frozen water? Answer: Phoenix's landing site is too warm for dry ice. The average daily temperature is about -70 F while dry ice requires temperatures lower than about -109 F.

The space program has provided many things that we use in our daily lives. We need research and drive to further ourselves.

Besides, we need to spread ourselves a bit more than just Earth. There are other problems besides human made ones. What if a giant asteroid hit Earth? Mars looks pretty good, just in case.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

Yeah that would be the best bet.

but it was kind of obvious that there was water on mars, noice the erosion in the planet that resembles streams.

without space the Japanese would have never invented instant ramen, and i believe Cd's were a result too, none the less going up in space helped spark inventions we use today.

There's plenty on this planet that has not been researched or solved, resolved or discovered. Space Exploration is a waste of time and money, IMO.

The ONLY thing we have gotten from space programs is Tang, and not the kind you hook up with at a bar. The kind you drink.

An Asteroid hitting Earth is a reason to move to Mars? Might as well play the lottery, you have a better chance to win that. Do you think for a second that an asteroid can't hit any other planet in the Solar System or does not?
