iTunes

So I got an iTune giftcard from a Yankee Swap, and I decided to use it to download a song I couldn't find anywhere else. Now I have the song, but I can't play it anywhere outside of iTunes. I was just wondering if anyone knows of a program that can change the song into mp3 or some kind of format that'll let me use windows media player to play it (it's an "M4P" file, whatever that is).

Ahh... you found the magic of DRM. DRM stands for Digital Rights Management. It is a way for companies to screw you out of what you paid for by not allowing what you want todo.

You can still get around this DRM limitation on iTunes by burning a CD with the music and then ripping it to MP3. It is a pain, but so is DRM.

It is a ripoff and they are all doing it. I didn't know that method to crack an itune. I just stopped buying music online because it is a joke right now.

now apple has said it will hold off on the iTune fixes for Vista.

Speaking of Vista... whenever you play any "premium" content (anything with DRM) it will degrade the output intentionally, in case you wanted to copy it or burn it. Also, it uses YOUR HARDWARE to do this, some of which wasn't meant to do this. It severely taxes your system whenever you play DRM content.

I never experienced that. They get you coming and going. Norway is heading the fight to stop this madness.

So apparently iTunes can't be used with Vista. Of course, Vista can't actually use most of the drivers it requires to operate, but that's just a minor detail. In the words of Rodney King, "Can't we all just get along?"
