Vista is leaked Old Sat Nov 11, 2006 7:26:32 PM #27087 Perm Link
Christmas has come early.

Since the RTM date was Nov.8th I am not really surprised by this.

Adding to that Office 2007 has also been leaked.

Quote

Out in the wild

WORD FROM the badlands of the Internet concerns Microsoft's new Windows Vista.

It appears to have been leaked ahead of the downloadable MSDN release and can be found on various torrent sites and the FTPs of unscrupulous individuals.

We can't confirm if the release works, but after a period with 'nuke' status on the various nfo sites the release is now unnuked and allegedly proper and working.

Also to note is that installing from a previous version of Windows will not work stating a read error, suggesting that the release is far from perfect.

The release has the build number 6000.16386.061101-2205.

The key supplied with the warez release is an older RC2-based key, but apparently the Windows setup will allow you to install without a key for a 30-day period.

We certainly don't condone the download or use of pirated software, but it is interesting this download has come prior to any actual official release from Microsoft.

Oddly, Office 2007 which went final several days before Vista, is still nowhere to be seen.

More updates as we get them. µ

I'm getting a legit copy of Vista with my Intel retailedge bundle and will be checking it out when I get it. It will be Ultimate. I'm not going to be using it, though.

I may try a "test" release Smile.

I am gonna pick it up evetually but not right away. Maybe when XP is dead and Vista becomes the norm; by then it will have matured with bugfixes as you know it has them because its a MS product.

I hope, at least.

If they were a viable option for gaming, I might agree with you.

I like my games too, but unfortunately, most of the games I like aren't on Mac OS X or Linux.

Bootcamp for the win.
That's all I have to say. My uncle went out and bought a brand new Mac Pro to replace his still prefectly fine G5. Pure unadultereated awesome, in computer form.

Michael: Jodie, how's my schedule look for today?
Jodie: You've got a conference and dinner party at the Japanese Embassy regarding wildlife protection.
Michael: Oh, yeah...sorry, but I'll have to cancel that. I'm heading out to save America!

Linux is an extremely viable option for gaming. Seriously. But it's a pity that most game makers haven't noticed yet. It's also a pity that all the visual effects, especially when done via XGL, get in the way of game performance (a non-issue when effects can be turned off on-the-fly, which I do.)

I don't know much about OSX, except that it's cooler than Windows. Loads cooler. Speaking of OSX, there are people who believe that Apple\'s computers-as-appliances business model isn\'t seriously competitive in the long run.

Microsoft's banishing of true OpenGL is a dangerous move. It may do several things - damage the non-Windows gaming market, which cannot survive in a DirectX-only world, or stop gamers from using Æro or Vista in the first place.

It will happen. Windows will get seriously injured. ( not "die" because it won't in near future - after all, is DOS really dead ? )

I've been running my system in dual boot with one version of Vista or another from day one, it's OK and easy on the eyes, but what a memory hog so far. It's gotten better with each new release, but I'll stick with my XP for the time being..........Smile

I want Vista but I guess it's just all the hypes and all the eyecandidesSmile. Though< I really think that MS is charging way too much for it. I also wish Mac can gain some ground as I like the interface of mac and I think we really need some good OS competition so that MS can fear some pressure.

I completely hate windows. OSX and certain Distros of linux look a million times better, and I wish that game developers would get this through their thick skulls. Of course, as a gamer, I am still using windows, and unless developers increase compatibility for Linux, I will be buying Vista in the near future.

I haven't used the Mac OS in years, but I think it would sell great if it was ever ported over to PC's....Wink I really enjoied using it back in the Power PC Mac days. Oh well, that'll never happen, at least I don't think so anyway, nothing wrong with Windows IMHO..........Smile

I very much doubt that this will happen, Mac may take some ground but Linux I don’t think so, many companies will continue to use Windows for support, ease of use and a plethora of software, hardware and drivers.

I don't see how Mac's chances are any better than Linux'. If anything, they'd be worse because of the hardware strategy.

I'll call you on that one. A Mac is now a PC. Owning a Mac allows you to run any OS that can run on x86. I plan on purchasing a Macbook sooner or later because I like their design.

Aha see Mac will take some ground, ( Im not a Mac user or have ever even turned one on) but I have been observing them for a few years.
with this last move by switching over to Intel they will definitely get more attention and Windows and Mac in the same box now that’s just plain beautiful, think about it Mac have a monopoly in the Graphic Arts World and in Movies ( when was the last time you saw a PC in a movie) in time more hardware vendors will include Mac drivers as well with their products, besides if you have a dual boot system OS X /XP you can always switch back and forth or hell just run each other via emulation Using VMWare.

yesterday evening at the cinema in Casino Royal. There were multiple Sony laptops; what little one saw of the desktop looked like some form of IceWM or so which was designed to look like Windows XP without sporting the Windows Logo.
