This fall I saw the movie Serenity, which I enjoyed at the time. Then I saw an episode of Firefly on the Scifi channel a couple of months back, and mentioned to my sister that I had enjoyed both the movie and the show. She got me the complete series on DVD, and I love every episode. The biggest question is how did I miss this show when it originally aired on Fox at the end of 2002? I had no idea the show existed until they made a movie from it. I wonder if Fox even tried to market this show. Has anyone else seen it? If you haven't and you like scifi, I highly recommend that you check it out.

I watched it way back when it first aired on Fox. I didn't like it, it was a while ago, and I can't remember why specifically.
I thought it was kind of a stupid that they decided to make a movie out of it when the reason it was taken off Fox was because it failed miserably.

I saw the movie and checked out the series too and thought they were both pretty good. From what I understand someone at Fox didn't like the show. The pilot, which I think is pretty important to setup the show, didnt air until after they cancelled the show, they aired episodes out of order and there were 3 or 4 episodes that were never aired. I also don't think they advertised it much because I had never heard of it until the movie came out.

George Lucas has written some of the worst dialogue imaginable. He wanted Arnold to appear in Episode 3 but he said the script had too many action movie cliches for an actor of his calibur.

He's also written one of the greatest universes imaginable so his dialogue is easy to forgive. Though if you want to take dialogue into account, Whedon still pales in comparison to Lucas because The Phantom Menace dialogue may have been bad but I guarantee you that you can turn to a rerun of Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Angel and find dialogue that's worse on any given day.

EDITED FOR SPELLING.

On that note: thank goodness Lucas is going to not be very involved with writing and directing the TV show!

I obviously love Star Wars, but George Lucas is a delusional hack and the prequels generally SUCK. Whedon's writing is much better on any given day, and Serenity shows how good the Prequels could have been with a great writer behind them. Empire Strikes Back was the best because GL didn't write or direct it.

F*** George Lucas.
