Western Digital TV Live Hub Media Center
Media players are converging to be all alike. There needs to be some differentiation in the market. Some players stream only network content, some get everything off the internet. Then there are some that can do both. What makes the WD TV Live Hub different is that it can not only consume content, it can serve it as well off its 1TB drive.Next Page »

Western Digital TV Live Plus
The WD TV Live Plus has some great features over the original Netflix only players. While the Roku maybe well known for its Netflix streaming support, the WD TV Live Plus has Netflix and more. Combine tons of internet content with support for your internal network content and you've got a product ready to be at the center of your media needs.Next Page »

DMCA Failures: Scientology

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on September 8, 2008 at 1:59:53 PM
Clearly our system is broken when a random organization can send a DMCA take down notice to pull 4,000 Youtube videos that are anti-scientology. Our legal system and copyright laws need to be overhauled to stop this sort of malicious intent to censor free speech. The problem is that scientology has so many people in their pockets (from morons in Hollywood all the way to law makers) that they can stop change in its tracks. This is just another example of how this country is failing to protect our rights.

Quote

Over a period of twelve hours, between this Thursday night and Friday morning, American Rights Counsel LLC sent out over 4000 DMCA takedown notices to YouTube, all making copyright infringement claims against videos with content critical of the Church of Scientology. Clips included footage of Australian and German news reports about Scientology, A Message to Anonymous/Scientology , and footage from a Clearwater City Commission meeting. Many accounts were suspended by YouTube in response to multiple allegations of copyright infringement.

YouTube users responded with DMCA counter-notices. At this time, many of the suspended channels have been reinstated and many of the videos are back up. Whether or not American Rights Counsel, LLC represents the notoriously litigious Church of Scientology is unclear, but this would not be the first time that the Church of Scientology has used the DMCA to silence Scientology critics. The Church of Scientology DMCA complaints shut down the YouTube channel of critic Mark Bunker in June, 2008. Bunker’s account, XenuTV, was also among the channels shut down in this latest flurry of takedown notices.

Viacom Moves Off YouTube

Viacom will be releasing a service that offers the same basic principle that YouTube does. Of course they plan to upsell this service. Expect lots of ads.

The idea behind the strategy, experts believe, it is to find a "workaround" to YouTube. And while Viacom executives say they're not trying to take the Google-owned video-sharing site head on, there's no question that relations between the two companies are chilly. After months of fruitless negotiations, Viacom last week demanded that YouTube remove 100,000 clips that featured the company's television shows or movies.

End Of Youtube

Poster: Aron Schatz
Posted on October 22, 2006 at 6:14:32 PM
The primary reason that most people go to YouTube is now coming to an end. Google will start handing user data over for copyright violations. Now watch YouTube's traffic hit the bottom and move somewhere else.

Quote

YouTube's actions in response to a subpoena it received in May show that it has been keeping tabs on users who post copyrighted material to its site -- and in one case shared the name of a user with lawyers from a Hollywood film studio. On May 24, lawyers for Viacom Inc.'s Paramount Pictures convinced a federal judge in San Francisco to issue a subpoena requiring YouTube to turn over details about a user who uploaded dialog from the movie studio's "Twin Towers," according to a copy of the document.
