»WoW Account Hacking Big

Remember that playing games does not make you immune to hacks. No matter if you are level 120 with a +3 battle axe, you are susceptible to keyloggers.

Quote

The gangs perpetrating the hacking are "incredibly active, and it's a good exploit," said Roger Thompson, CTO of security software developer LinkScanner. "It's probably a conservative estimate to say that there's tens of thousands of victims." The exploit works when unsuspecting WoW players visit any number of Web sites infected by the hackers with keylogging software. When the players visit the sites--which are often unrelated to WoW, but that players frequent, Thompson said--the software is quietly installed on their computers, allowing the hackers to spy on keystrokes and steal players' WoW passwords.

Jeez, I wish someone would hack my husband's WoW account so he would take a night off once in a while.

Oh, that doesn't sound good. As I mentioned in another post, I had been considering getting my nephew WOW for his birthday. I guess that's one more reason not to, as my sister would kill me if I did something that put a virus on her computer!

Yes, I have friends that have played this for quite awhile and so far have not had any trouble. This just comes with the terroratory of playing the games online.

I get tired of people acting like it's a huge, everyone is going to be attacked, deal. MILLIONS are playing, a handful have been hacked. For all we know they were targeted because of who they are!

And it's not just games like WoW that have problems with hackers...I know of a few online sites that have been targeted recently. It just goes with the territory of being online...if you use the internet, whether for games or surfing, you are susceptible.

So, are the people hacking just to get WoW password info so they can play for free? Or is there something more insidious about it?

Everyone knows that if its on the Gigantic WORLD WIDE WEB its gonna be able to get hacked. I dont care what it is. Be online at your own risk is what i say. The same applies to worms and viruses. We all know this.
