yarrrr

It's okay. I'm not gonna judge. I was there too at a point.
Slipknot is merely a springboard into the world of metal.
Just remember, if you ever think Slipknot is the heaviest, most hardcore, best shit out there.... well... it's not.

Oh...phew...I thought you were gonna go all n00b on me (don't know why) and start insulting me. ANYWAY, there's only a couple reasons I listen to Schlipknot.

1: A couple of their songs remind me greatly of one of my characters I've been delevoping for five years (Jaego). So I thought I'd check out what else they had to offer.

2: My friend is big metal-head (much like you, I think you guys'd get along quite swimmingly), and he knows of a LOT of metal bands. But, he specifically told me I'm not ready and that I should just listen to Slipknot to see if I actually enjoyed metal. He thinks I'm not metal enough...makes me kinda angry. So, he won't give me any other band names until he knows I really actually DO like metal.

But eh, Slipknot's not all that bad though, I still have a few more songs by them that I haven't listened to quite yet.

Lol.
I love how people rate "metal"ness. It's so 'cool'. <s>For real</s>.
My guess is he's trying to ease you into metal.

Mostly because most metalheads are like Tool fans. They think they hold the key to some secret universe and only a select few 'get it'.(Thanks to Something Awful for doing that research.) In reality, it's really people's love and understanding for music that allows a true love for metal. Most kids go through an angsty phase where they'll listen to Slipknot, KoRn, Disturbed, perhaps Cannibal Corpse, In Flames, and the "dreaded" Cradle of Filth, but lose all interest when the angst is gone. It's when you truly understand what's happening musically in metal that you begin to love it. The agression is also a plus. However, not all metal is aggressive. Anyways, the consensus among most "metalheads" is that Slipknot sucks. Mostly because their riffs are boring and uncreative, their lyrics are normal KoRn-induced tripe and their happy-go-lucky mask gimmick gets rather annoying. Then again, these are also the people that believe metal is like a club with no pansies or girls allowed. This is especially true for those who listen to Manowar and are gay.(The aforementioned sentence was merely a joke against power metal. If you listen to Manowar you are not neccessarily gay, though you do have a good chance of being gay).
Anyways. I listen to a lot of music. And when I say a lot, what I really mean is, I'm the music nazi. And what I say goes. Razz

Heh, I don't know if I'd consider myself angsty, but what the hell do I know. Anyway, that was a very well put together informative...thing. I myself am not a big fan of KoRn, I don't like their music OR their band name (the latter being least important). What I want to do is get more into metal music. I want to listen to many different bands, but...I don't really know where to start. I'll try out those songs you put after NP (whatever that means).

I've actually found some similarites between Metal and Emo. Please observe.
I was in Science Class, and decided to try out my knowledge on muzak.

Emo = My girlfriend dumped me, wahhh wahh cry weep cry moan.
Gothic Metal = My girlfriend dumped me, I'm going to slit my wrists.
Doom Metal = My beloved has left, so I'm sitting in the corner of a rainy graveyard weeping softly.
Death Metal = My girlfriend dumped me, I'm going to mutilate her and eat her corpse.
Black Metal = My virgin blooded temptress left me, you'll pay for this God....WITH YOUR LIFE!
Progressive Metal = My girlfriend dumped me, but I'm going to try to win her back with my 1337 guitar skills.
Power Metal = My mysterious maiden will dump me if I don't rescue her from an ogre with my mighty steed and sword of power.
Redneck Metal (Pantera) = My sister dumped me.
Porngrind = My girlfriend dumped me, but at least I still have the videotapes.
Hair Metal = I dumped my girlfriend because I'm gay.
Thrash Metal = My girlfriend dumped me but that's okay cause I can wank faster than I play guitar.

This band I'm in, Sphincter Army, does crazy noisecore stuff.
Anyways, two guys in the band have this side project called STD.
Which stands for Stephen, Tyler, and something else... I forget.
Anyways, they have a song called "Curly Fries Are Good".
Just thought I'd share that.

Well they picked that name because you <i>know</i> any band with "Sphincter" in the name is going to have crazy songs, and any band with "Army" in their name is going to go crazy insane live. And then they recruited me for Sonic Treble Waves, id est, vocals. It's actually fun to play live with those guys, though it does strain the voice from the screeching, growling, and yelling.

I prefer the vocals in Karmic Grace. We're actually thinking of changing that name to Jane Doe though.
