»RIAA Wants Royalties From Radio

We have finally come full circle. The RIAA is now seeking royalties for radio broadcasts. I believe this will be the beginning of the end for all large music cartels. No major network will want to pay the licensing that they seek.

Quote

For years, stations have paid royalties to composers and publishers when they played their songs. But they enjoy a federal exemption when paying the performers and record labels because, they argue, the airplay sells music. Now, the Recording Industry Assn. of America and several artists' groups are getting ready to push Congress to repeal the exemption, a move that could generate hundreds of millions of dollars annually in new royalties. Mary Wilson, who with Diana Ross and Florence Ballard formed the original Supremes, said the exemption was unfair and forced older musicians to continue touring to pay their bills.

Gads, we wouldn't want people to actually have to work to make money, instead of just sitting around letting their music play on the radio to get paid. Like everyone else does, obviously.

This seems counterproductive to me. It's not going to raise money, it's just going to shut down radio (music radio). Incidentally, anyone know where radio stations make their money? Just advertisers? Because it seems if they're paying so much for all their music as well as the station they're not going to have the money needed to broadcast. Bye bye radio.

Huh? Signature? What's going on with that signature?

Oh, boo-hoo... older musicians have to tour to pay their bills... I hate it for them. What in the world did they do with all of the money they already made from selling albums? Maybe they don't need their 5 cars and fancy mansion.
I would think that most radio stations would go under because no way could they pay to play every single song.
It would kill some performers because many radio stations wouldn't be willing to pay money for a new artist.
Stupid idea.

I don't think that radio stations will ever go for this. Especially since the radio stations are doing the musicians a favor by getting their work exposure.

Hopefully the radio will tank and then people get pissed at the RIAA and then they die.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!
