Has anyone tried this new open source version of Gimp? It is supposed to be photoshop user friendly?

I use Photoshop myself... but if I didn't have it available, Gimp is fine for me. Looks interesting, though...

I'll download it and check it out.

2014 is going to be a good year. More content, more streamlining. Be a part of history!

One big letdown that my in-the-know brother told me about it the gimp does not have a quick way to do HDR shots where as photshop has a merge to HDR option. I tried to tell him that gimp adopts all features eventually, open source justs needs some time to catch up.

Personally, I don't think schools or businesses care about paying for specialized programs like that because the get to outsource their support for them and it is a handy tax write off.

I have been using GIMP on a regular basis now. From my level (I am a basic user) of working with GIMP I found it good enough to be used by users like me.

The Gimp is obvious enough if you invest some time in guessing icon meanings and having a look through menus.

And use intelligence, no PS experience, when looking for something ;-)

If you download the new version they are calling it Gimpshop because PS uses will find it familiar.

GIMP is good. I've used it for a couple of years now. There's a lot of support and direction available too. The nice thing about open source programs is that the support/documentation is extremely user friendly because the answers (and problems) are from people using the software.

I believe a user can submit a contribution to the manual if they choose.
